JECA’s Purpose

In 1979, leaders of the Alabama Engineering Community identified the need to establish an organization that represents the interests of any engineering technical society, joint engineering council, land surveyors society or individual engineer committed to increasing professional outlook, sensitivity to professional responsibility of public interest, and dedicated to a leadership role in making technology a true servant of mankind. On November 1,1979, in accordance with the Alabama Nonprofit Corporation Act, JECA was incorporated as a non-profit organization dedicated to unifying the governmental affairs activities and common legislative interests of the Alabama Engineering Community. JECA's purpose is:
  • To effect an organization of and to represent any engineering technical society, joint council, land surveyors society, or individual engineer who is interested in increasing the engineer's professional outlook, sensitivity to the engineers responsibility to public interest, and is dedicated to a leadership role in making technology a true servant of man.
  • To fulfill a need for technical assistance in public policy making by examining proposed legislation as well as rules promulgated by government agencies to offer advice and assistance in cases where the corporation feels that it has expertise or a vested interest.
  • To suggest legislation which the corporation considers to be for the improvement and betterment of the life of the people of Alabama.
  • To study the problems confronting the practice of engineering in the State of Alabama and to promote a medium for the exchange of ideas, opinions, and information for the purpose of developing methods of management and service and of increasing efficiency for the benefit of all engineers.
  • To hold meetings and conferences for the mutual improvement and education of its members.
  • To promote a high standard of business practices and ethics for those engaged in the engineering profession.
  • To conduct and transact any business lawfully authorized and not prohibited by the Alabama Non-Profit Corporation Act or other legislation to which the corporation is subject.
